7/7/2010 Update: PLTA eNews Issue 14 is distributed.

6/30/2010 Update: PLTA, along with others, spoke at the TCEQ hearing on Texas Surface Water Quality Standards, asking that stricter standards be included. The Commissioners did agree to retain the existing, stricter standards for bacteria in "primary contact recreation" lakes, such as Lake Travis. (see TCEQ press release HERE)

5/23/2010 Update: PLTA eNews Issue 13 is distributed.

5/17/2010 Update: The first meeting of the Lake Travis Community Coalition took place. Lonnie Moore of PLTA was one of the speakers. See news article HERE.

5/14/2010 Update: The Highlander ran an article (HERE) on Burnet's counter-proposal to LCRA.

5/13/2010 Update: LCRA filed a letter with TCEQ, requesting a contested case hearing in the matter of the proposed City of Burnet permit to increase allowable discharges of effluent into Hamilton Creek and Lake Travis. See the LCRA letter HERE

5/12/2010 Update: KXAN ran news stories on the Hamilton Creek discharge issue on both 5/11 and 5/12. The 5/12 video features LCRA directly contradicting the City of Burnet's claim that LCRA studies had shown the effluent would have "minimal" harm. See both HERE or by going to our Facebook page

5/11/2010 Update: PLTA, along with Burnet County residents calling themselves Concerned Citizens of Hamilton Creek, spoke to both the Burnet County Commissioners Court and the Burnet City Council, voicing opposition to the proposed permit to discharge effluent into Hamilton Creek / Lake Travis. See the Burnet Bulletin article HERE and the Daily Tribune article HERE

5/06/2010 Update: See article in the Burnet Bulletin HERE

4/16/2010 Update: PLTA eNews Issue 12 is distributed (incorrectly labeled as Issue 10)

4/14/2010 Update: PLTA received TCEQ's written responses to the public comments received in opposition to City of Burnet's application to discharge up to 1.7MGD of treated effluent into Hamilton Creek/Lake Travis. Disappointingly, but not surprisingly, TCEQ dismissed the many arguments and says they will issue the permit unless it is further contested. See the TCEQ's response HERE.

4/13/2010 Update: We added a Facebook page (use link on menu). If you are a Facebook user, check it out and give us your feedback.  Also, see April 09 PLTA eNews Issue 11 HERE.

3/18/2010 Update: The public comment period has now ended on proposed changes by TCEQ to the Texas Surface Water Quality Standards. TCEQ staff has proposed a significant loosening of the water standards to make it easier and less expensive for polluters (principally dairy farms and wastewater treatment plants) to degrade our waterways, including the Highland Lakes. See PLTA's comment letter HERE.

03/08/2010 Update: The TCEQ has formally responded to the public comments regarding LCRA's application to increase the Inter-Basin Transfer of water to City of Leander. A copy of the TCEQ document is posted on our website HERE. Additional information is found in Issue 10 of the PLTA eNews.
